Invent a Review Game

Invent a new review game for the end of a chapter. How would it be structured? Would there be a clearly-defined winner? Make sure this game incorporates everyone in the class, where everyone is actively reviewing the material on some level.

  1. Pick a Card!!!
    The game that I suggest is that everyone in the classroom makes up 1 question or a problem (more if necessary) each about what they've learned on a piece of paper with a size of a normal deck of spade cards. They each write a capital letter on the back of the card (not the side with the question). Then the teacher will collect all the cards from the students and shuffle them. He or she will divide the students into groups and let a student from each group to pick a card from the deck. They will all take turns and move on to the second student in each group. Meanwhile, a student from one of the groups will be keeping score, as well as participating in the game. The group with the most points, or with the most amount of problems solved will win this card game. An advice is that the teacher could give a prize to the winning group, such as popsicles or candy.

  2. Math Relay Race
    Each row will be a team, with the same number of people in each row. The first person will receive a sheet with the a number of problems that corresponds to the number of students in the row. When the race starts, the first person will solve the first problem, the second will solve the second problem, and so on. When the last person solves the last problem, the answers will be checked. If a problem is wrong, the person who solved that problem must go back and re-solve the problem. The first team that has all the correct answers will win.

  3. The game I suggest for the chapter reviews are to get in groups of 4-5, and produce hard 5 questions. Each group trades their questions with the other groups, and try to solve the problem. Every single groups should come up with five final answers in one sheet. If there is a group that got 100% correct, that group is rewarded with no homework.

  4. Students can get into groups of 4 or 5 and the teacher will post around 20 questions around the class. The groups will go around and solve the questions together. Some questions should be harder than others and the group with the most correct answers can be the winner.

    The teacher will write down questions on the paper and put it in the box so that no one can see. Then students will pair up and get a question from the box. Some of the questions will be harder than the others. When the the pairs gets the question, they have to figure it out and write down the correct equations and answers. If the pairs gets right, they will be rewarded with candy.

  6. We did this game last year in pre-algebra but I want to do it again because I felt so ashamed of myself....... the class makes the desks form a circle around the classroom. And then you make a problem that you think is hard-it can be any type of question (that has to do with the chapter), and send it to your right. If we keep on doing this, on the last question, there would be a winner. How you win it is that all your answers are correct and you solved them in time.

  7. Based on the Korean game show 도전! 골든벨 (Ring the Golden Bell!)

    The teacher prepares a certain amount of questions. Maybe 15, 30, or even up to a 100. The teacher then must put each of them on the board in any order. The students must answer individually and show the answer to the teacher after the time for that question is up. If the student gets it right, then the student will go on to the next round. If the student gets the question wrong, he/she has to sit out for the rest of the game. If the student(s) clear the last question, the whole class gets candy. If they all get out before the questions are up, then the class gets nothing.

  8. elimination game!!1 You would get in a group, but don't be with them (don't talk with each other in the group ether.) Then you get pieces of paper and solve a hard problem. Each of the people in your group must turn a piece of paper with the answer in it. If the answer is wrong, that person must be eliminated that last surviver in the each group must be in a group and do more of the hardest problems and the last person remaining is the winner

  9. Make people sit in perfect rows and columns. Each column of people is one team. The people in the first row are #1, row 2 is #2, etc. The teacher asks a question and says a number. The people who have that number can answer the question if they stand up. The person who gets the right answer gets a point.

  10. I personally think Jeopardy is the best way of learning and also to have fun. Not only does it help us learn, review, and test our understanding but also could help us build better teamwork and cooperation with others. This game could be divided in 4 groups of 5 or even 5 groups of 4 depending on the number of questions. Each group can aim for 500, 400, 300, 200, and 100 which is labeled in each category. There will be 4 categories and in each of them will have 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500. If they get it right, they earn the points but if they get an incorrect answer they will forfeit the number of points they have gambled. That way at the end of the game we could count up points and decide a clear winner of a group.

  11. We should play a game called Around the World. So, basically there is starting point at one desk of a student in the classroom. That student stands behind the person who's next to him, and the teacher gives the two students an equation. The one who solves it first and correctly moves on, while the loser either remains in their seat, or sits in the desk they stood in front ofIf one person makes it ALL the way around the world, then he/she is the winner of the game. If there is no such person, there is no winner for that round.

  12. Rotating Game

    We divide into three groups. Each person makes up a question that is related to this Unit. Then we would rotate the questions from each group. After we are done rotating as a group, we would trade questions from one team to another. The people would count questions each team got right at the very end and the team that got the most questions right would get CANDY!!!!!

  13. Math Basketball

    A ball is thrown around the room to each person. Each person who gets the ball has to answer a question. If this person gets the question right, then they get to throw it to someone else. If they get it wrong, then they are out of the game. When it comes down to the last two people, they both have to get the question right and then score a basket to win

  14. Math Bingo

    1. The instructor writes 25 equations with one variable.
    2. The instructor chooses a number for the variable.
    3. Students solve the 25equations by substituting the variable with the chosen number.
    4. Students make a bingo chart of their own, writing the twenty five answers they have found in any order.
    5. The instructor calls each equation out, but not the answer.
    6. The students calculate the equation and cross the number they wrote out.
    7. The first student who has five answers in a row shouts "BINGO!"

  15. "Easy, Medium, Hard"

    Each person will create a problem that is easy, medium, and hard. The instructor will pile them up in the following categories and each person will pick random cards from the deck, and solve them. If they get it wrong, they will get harder questions, if they get it right, they will continue getting random cards.

  17. There can be notecards with questions on the front and the answer on the back. The game will be 1 vs 1.
    1. Two people will start. The teacher will hold up a notecard and the one who solves the question quickly and correctly will win.
    2. Then the winner will play against the next person.
    3. To win the game, one person needs to beat every classmates.

  18. The game I suggest is similar to Halli Galli. Group of 4 or 5 will take turn to turn over their cards without looking at them. (The cards will have questions that we learned in this chapter and answers to them.) When a card with an answer is given, the first person to hit the floor/desk will get the cards. After given amount of time, a person who has greatest amount of cards will win this game.

  19. We could get into 5groups with 4members in each group. Each member in the group has to solve hard problems given by Mr.Jobe. The member who got the most problems correct in each group will receive a prize.

  20. Toss the Math

    People get into pairs of two and they make hard questions. They write it in a piece of paper and roll it into a ball. Then everyone closes their eyes and throws the ball to someone other pair. All the pairs are given two minutes to solve the problems and they have to throw it to another pair. This goes on until all the pairs have answered all the questions.
